Kindle 3 Review

Posted in Uncategorized on July 28th, 2010 by Admin – Be the first to comment

Behold, the new Amazon Kindle 3! I can’t believe my timing. I just purchased a Kindle 2 and received it yesterday, no joke. Fortunately however, my Kindle has a serious issue with its speaker. Therefore I have a legitimate reason to return it to Amazon. I’ll be purchasing a Kindle 3 as soon as possible.

So let’s take a look at some of the advantages of the new Kindle 3 over the old…

  • 15% Lighter
  • Twice the storage space
  • 50% Better screen contrast
  • Same $189 price tag regardless of improvements
  • New graphite color option (which I wanted!)
  • Improved fonts (darker and crisper apparently)
  • 21% Smaller body (Debatable whether this is an improvement.)
  • Double battery life (one month)
  • Faster page turning
  • WiFi capability
  • Thinner (1/3″)
  • Softer page turn buttons (big plus for quiet settings)

The Kindle 3 is scheduled to be released on August 27th, 2010. Order it now and Amazon will provide free two-day shipping.

So what do you guys think? Are you getting one?

HTC Evo Review – Pros and Cons

Posted in Phones on June 22nd, 2010 by Admin – 139 Comments

I’ve owned the HTC Evo for about a week now, and there is a lot to cover about this device. But the first thing that everyone wants to know — is it simply a pretty face or is it truly revolutionary?

The bottom line is that it’s amazing. I’m not kidding here. It may be costing me an extra $50 a month, but it sure is pulling its weight.

Pros:

-Insanely fast. No lag, even when running several apps at a time.

-Sprint’s 4G network, which beats all other carriers as of June 2010.

-Nice, bright, crisp 4.3 inch display.

-Android app store (though it’s definitely not as good as Apple’s).

-HTC Sense and an extensive array of dynamic widgets

-8MP Camera and 720p HD Video (Though pictures can be “grainy” under bad lighting).

-Voice recognition typing works great and is very useful. I don’t like touchscreen typing so this is a big benefit to me.

Cons:

-Battery life. The battery life is horrendous, even if you turn off 4G, GPS, Wireless, and Bluetooth. Buy a couple of batteries off eBay, they’re cheap! (I don’t even make a commission here). Two batteries and a wall charger costed me $10.00 USD.

-Size and weight. If this phone were any bigger, I wouldn’t want to use it. Then again, if it were smaller, I’d have a really hard time typing.

Bottom Line:

Go buy one. I’m not even kidding, it’s a great experience. And Sprint has the cheapest data plans anyways.

Dynex 26” DX-L26-10C Review

Posted in HDTVs on April 25th, 2010 by Admin – 110 Comments

Submitted by Jackson

I recently got this 26 inch LCD TV, and am really pleased with it. I don’t use it as my normal program watching TV, but rather for watching movies or playing video games in my bedroom. It’s a nice simple TV that is perfect for what I use it for. It has two HDMI ports, two component ports, two A/V ports and an S-Video port which allows me to hook up an HD cable box or even a VCR. The S-Video port allows me to hook my computer up to it and use it as a monitor, and let me just say, a 26 inch computer monitor is amazing. Another useful port that, nowadays, I rarely see on LCD TVs is the A/V out port. This means that I could record DVDs playing through the A/V input to a VCR or, for all you gamers out there, I can hook up a Dazzle recorder and record my video games. And with a native resolution of 1366 x 768, my video games and DVDs look like true HD; however the maximum HD compatibility is 720p. Even though it’s not the maximum of 1080p, most video games are played at 720p on the PlayStation 3 so it does not affect that at all.

One thing that I would have liked to of seen higher is the refresh rate. New LCD TVs are coming out with amazing refresh rates of 250 Hz and higher while this TV has a refresh rate of 60 Hz. This lowers the enjoyment of watching movies and playing video games on it as the motion is sometimes a bit jittery. Even though the refresh rate is low, the TV comes with simulated surround sound and a headphone jack so you can watch a movie with a theatre-like experience without disturbing others around you. The only problem with this is that most headphones are only three feet long, at most, so if you were to use this as a TV at night without waking others around you, I suggest getting a set of wireless headphones. But if you’re not going to use headphones, the TV comes with 5-Watt speakers so the video is completely in tune with the audio and none of that lagging will occur. The best part is the price – $299, which is well worth it considering the great features that come with this compact TV. It’s perfect for a bedroom or a smaller-sized room.

Acer H233H Review

Posted in Monitors, Uncategorized on April 25th, 2010 by Admin – 82 Comments

List Price: $209.99 USD
Release date September 16, 2010.

Bottom Line for: Acer H233H 23″ Monitor
Pros: Great color and frame rate, easy setup, very easy input management, nice sleek look.
Cons: Bad internal Speakers, slow response time for touch buttons.

With the Acer 23” Widescreen LCD monitor you won’t be disappointed. According to the specs it claims to have a 40,000 to one contrast ratio, making it able to display 16.7 million colors. I don’t doubt that for a second. I had an old Gateway monitor before and my desktop looked significantly different color wise after plugging it in. The monitor is HD quality with clear Youtube videos, and great looking images.

When you take it out of the box the only thing you have to do is mount the monitor on the stand. This is as easy as it sounds. By simply pushing the mount onto the stand it clicked into place and that was that. The look of the monitor is great even when turned off (I still couldn’t stop looking at it.) As seen in the images it has a nice glossy finish to it making for a sleek looking final product.

As far as inputs the monitor comes with a variety of inputs not only including the essential VGA input for computers, but also DVI and HDMI inputs for DVD or console hook up. I was disappointed that there wasn’t any USB inputs seeing as I don’t have a USB hub yet. Plugging in cords is a little challenging, because of the placement of the inputs, but once plugged in it adds to the elegant look of the monitor. Switching inputs is made extremely easy by pressing the touch  “input” button. Once pressed the monitor will cycle through all the inputs and stop on the next active one. Other buttons on the front of the monitor include Auto, (configures resolution and evaluates your system), the Menu button, where you can adjust settings, and two arrows that allow for menu navigation. There is also a power button. The cool thing about the touch capable buttons is that when the monitor is off, the LED lights behind the buttons cause them to disappear. Regardless, they are a little annoying to use. It often takes two, three, or even four presses before they respond.

I did hook up my Xbox 360 via the included HDMI cable that came with the monitor and found that it didn’t look bad. I didn’t feel like the screen was to small and the colors and frame rate were great. I played Modern Warfare 2 for an entire weekend and then played it on an HDTV and found very little difference in quality. I was actually surprised by the quality of it.

The specs also say that it holds internal speakers, and that is true. Despite having them, they are undoubtedly terrible and shouldn’t have been included in the hardware. If you don’t already have external speakers are a must if you plan on getting this. The speakers have terrible quality and my cheap DELL external speakers easily surpass the internal ones.

Overall the Acer 23” Monitor is great at what it was built to do and I can’t complain about display. It lives up to all it’s specs, consel gaming is satisfactory, and the pros weigh out the cons. I would recommend this to any person out looking for a monitor and for $200 you get what you pay for and then some.

Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Review

Bottom line for: Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Speakers

Pros: Very portable, full remote control of the music library, long lasting battery, good sound quality.
Cons: Remote control can be a little unresponsive, only charges your ipod when plugged into wall, buttons are “sticky”
Seeing as there are tons of iPod docks out there (all of them being similar or identical,) I’d have to say the Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 is a pretty good dock. It’s simplicity is what really made this dock a great product. Not to mention its great portability, sound, and ease of use. If you haven’t already figured out, the Anywhere 2 can be completely wireless while in use. When running off its internal battery, the only thing plugged into to it is your iPod. You can easily pick it up and move it. When it runs out of battery, simply plug it in to the wall with the included AC power cable and it not only charges the dock, but will charge any connected device. Logitech claims 10 hours of unplugged use, and after a weekend of use I completely believe it. I used it very frequently for an entire weekend and it didn’t die until late sunday afternoon.

As far as sound quality goes, I can’t complain at all. The all over sound quality is great and it can get pretty loud. Don’t expect a high quality sound system, but it’s great for a dorm room, or non-sound system ready situation.

The only thing I have to complain about is the remote control, and the buttons on the actual dock. The remote control can be annoyingly unresponsive. In fact, I would almost say it’s useless. I often found myself pressing a button multiple times, only to find that it lagged and I was deep within my music library. The other thing that annoys me with this device are the buttons on the top. When they ARE responsive, they’re really sticky. There’s this loud “CLICK” whenever I press a button and personally, I prefer the silent taps of a Mac keyboard.

I would recommend this dock for casual use and for trips to somewhere without outlets. If your looking for a more high end dock, I wouldn’t go for this. There are many better ones out there. I think the price is a little much, but I’m happy with the device.

How to Increase Google Adsense Revenue

Posted in Making Money Online on April 25th, 2010 by Admin – 179 Comments

Do you use Google Adsense? Tired of seeing this message?

Today’s Estimated Earnings: $0.00

Well guess why! NO ONE IS CLICKING YOUR ADS! To make money, people have to click your ads.

Read these tips and tricks and figure out why no one’s clicking!

The Truth About Adsense

To make a lot of money off Google Adsense, you need one of the following combinations:

1. ALOT of traffic.

2. A moderate amount of traffic with high paying keywords in your content.

3. ALOT of traffic AND high paying keywords in your content.

How Much Your Website Topic Really Matters

I don’t get that much traffic (perhaps 10,000 unique visitors a month) but I’m probably making more than many websites that get tons of traffic. This is because my website topic is consumer electronics. I get paid up to 10000% of what other webmasters make per click! Therefore, your website topic can influence your Adsense earnings by a tremendous percentage.

Example A: A guy writes about laptops, cameras, phones, antivirus, and HD televisions. There is a lot of money to be made from selling these products. Therefore there is much more competition for the keywords.

Let’s say he gets 10,000 website visitors a month.

And let’s say 1% of those people click an advertisement.

Let’s also assume that he gets paid $1.50 per click.

This guy is making $150 a month of Adsense! Congratulations!

Example B: Some guy writes about basket weaving. There isn’t nearly as much competition in this niche because there is not a lot of money to be made.

Let’s say he gets 100,000 website visitors a month. (This is 1000% of the traffic Example A gets!)

And let’s assume that 1% of those people click an advertisement.

Let’s take a generous guess that he’ll make an average of $0.05 a click.

This guy is only making $50.00 a month with Adsense, even though he gets 10x more traffic!

So essentially, just make make sure your website keywords pay a reasonable amount.

Researching For Keyword Value:

To find out how much a certain keyword/phrase is worth, check out this link:

Google Keyword External Tool

You can look up the rough prices for bids on keywords and the associated level of traffic.

Google Ad Placement:

Some people will tell you that you should only place one advertisement on each page. This is stupid – the more ads that are on your website, the more likely someone is going to click them. Why? Because it’s more likely that they will SEE the ads, which leads them to READ the ads, which might just get them to CLICK the ads.

Adsense ads need to be placed in areas where users are LOOKING. If you get a million hits a month but you put yours ads in your website footer, how the heck is anyone even going to FIND them? You need to place ads near navigation bars, next to actual website content, and other places that users look.

Here’s an official image published by Google that sums up how effective ads are when placed in certain areas of websites:

That should really help out anyone who wanted a specific answer.

Best Types of Adsense Ads

The best performing Adsense block is the 250×250 square, situated to the top left of the screen.

Text link blocks and banners tend to do worse than normal ads.

Text ads tend to perform better than image ads because people mentally filter out anything that looks like a banner ad.

Blending in your Ads with your site’s color schemes will make the ads look nicer, thus more likely to be looked at and clicked.

Conclusion

I really hope this helped someone out there. My Adsense earnings have increased like mad since a few days ago when I redesigned my site using these tips. Hopefully they will do the same for you.
